Ask a questionYes. UK limited companies are legally required to file annual accounts with Companies House and a corporation tax return (CT600) with HMRC each year. While it's possible to file these yourself, a qualified accountant ensures full compliance, identifies allowable expenses you may have missed, and helps directors extract profits tax efficiently through a combination of salary, dividends and pension contributions. At Isaacs & Co, we handle the full process from bookkeeping through to filing, so directors can focus on running the business.
Fees vary depending on the size and complexity of your business. As a guide: sole trader self assessment returns typically range from £150 to £400, limited company year end accounts from £600 to £2,000 or more, and monthly bookkeeping and payroll packages from £75 to £300 per month. Isaacs & Co offers fixed monthly fees with no hidden costs, so you know exactly what you're paying from the start.
An accountant prepares your statutory accounts, manages bookkeeping and handles routine filings with HMRC and Companies House. A tax advisor focuses on planning, legally reducing your tax liability through structured advice on remuneration, capital gains, inheritance, R&D claims, and reliefs such as EIS or SEIS. George Isaacs is both ACCA qualified (accountancy) and ATT qualified (taxation), meaning Isaacs & Co provides both services under one roof.
Yes, and the process is straightforward. We contact your existing accountant under standard professional clearance procedures, request the necessary handover information, and re-register as your agent with HMRC and Companies House. You don't need to have any awkward conversations, we handle everything. Most switches are completed within two to three weeks.
You must register for VAT if your taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 in any rolling 12 month period (the 2025/26 threshold). You can also register voluntarily below this if it benefits your business, for example to reclaim VAT on purchases or to appear more established to commercial clients. We advise Manchester businesses on registration timing, scheme selection (Standard, Flat Rate, Cash Accounting, Margin) and Making Tax Digital compliance.
Making Tax Digital is HMRC's requirement that businesses keep digital records and file returns using compatible software. MTD for VAT applies to all VAT registered businesses. MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) is being phased in for sole traders and landlords: from April 2026 for those with income over £50,000, from April 2027 for those over £30,000, and from April 2028 for those over £20,000. We use Xero, QuickBooks and Sage to keep clients fully MTD compliant.
Yes. R&D tax relief is one of the most valuable yet underclaimed reliefs available to UK SMEs. If your business is developing new products, software, processes or solving technical problems, you may qualify for cash credits or corporation tax reductions under the merged RDEC scheme. We prepare the technical narrative, qualifying expenditure schedule and HMRC submission, working with clients across software, engineering, manufacturing and life sciences.
We work with both. Our client base includes sole traders, freelancers, contractors (including CIS subcontractors), partnerships, LLPs and limited companies. Many clients start as sole traders and we advise on if and when incorporating becomes tax efficient, typically once profits consistently exceed £30,000 to £40,000 per year, though this depends on individual circumstances.
Yes. Our office is in Eccles, Manchester, and we welcome clients in person across Greater Manchester including Salford, Trafford, Bolton and Stockport. We also work remotely with clients across the UK using cloud accounting software, secure document portals and video meetings, so you can choose whichever suits you best.
